Your Child: Baptism

The birth of a baby is a special, joyful moment for parents and the wider family.
Many people want to celebrate this new life by bringing their child to be baptised (or christened) followed by a family party.

But baptism does not simply celebrate a birth. It is also a public ceremony which marks the point when a person joins the Church as a Christian.

Joining the Church family

Bringing your child to baptism means you make him or her a Christian. You will promise to bring up your child within the Church family – to learn about and explore the Christian faith.
So you should consider your understanding of Christianity, for children learn best by their parents’ example.

To learn more about what is involved in introducing children to Christianity, we recommend the following short documents: Helping your child to choose faith and How do we choose faith?
