Rector’s Weekly Message for 15th May, the 5th Sunday of Easter

Dear sisters and brothers

During the Easter Season in the Church we read through the Acts of the Apostles on Sundays and on weekdays at the Eucharist. Day by day we hear the beginnings of the Church after Jesus has ascended to his Father, we hear of the first missionary journeys, of the preaching of the Good News, of the healing of the sick, and of the ever growing family of faith as people began to follow Christ.

This Sunday we hear of St Peter explaining to the Church in Jerusalem of his realising the great scope, that God is not just for the Jewish people, but for all people. The vision of an all-inclusive Church, where all are welcome, Jew and Greek, rich and poor, male and female, young and old, is what enabled the Church to spread throughout the Mediterranean and around the world.

In our life together here in Haywards Heath we too are called to welcome all who seek the divine in their lives, to include all who wish to become part of the family of the Church. This is why it is important for us to consider our future vision. Who are we? How do we wish to welcome others? Are we able to speak of the joy of the Good News of Easter?

With all blessings,

Fr Edward

Joint Eucharist and APCM/Vision Afternoon, Sunday 22nd May

On Sunday 22nd May, before our APCM, we shall have a Joint Sung Eucharist for the whole parish at 9.30am at St Wilfrid’s Church (with no service at the Church of the Presentation that day). Shortly after Eucharist our APCM will be held there, leaving us some time to reflect on the future vision of the Parish. In a slight change of plan, after the APCM’s formal business has finished we will begin our Vision planning straight away, with the intention of finishing by 1.00pm.

We will be exploring three themes as part of our Vision planning, which are:

Enriching our Communities

This looks how we can work with and for our local community, and includes areas such as community initiatives, supporting chaplaincy, new and re-missioned places, and working with schools.

Growing Disciples

This looks at how we can grow in faith, and includes areas such as discipleship, children and young people, prayer, and growth, spiritually and numerically.

Resourcing our Mission and Ministry

This looks at how we can support the work of the parish, such as planning for growth, project initiation support, administration and support – making it easier, and becoming a resilient, growing church.

Before we meet for our APCM, consider what you would like to form the future vision of the parish, your hopes and also your fears for the future. Please also consider how you can help in the future of the parish by the use of your resources, of time, skills and also financial support.

Ascension Day, Thursday 26th May

There will be a Said Eucharist service at St Wilfrid’s Church on Thursday 26th May
at 12 noon to celebrate the Ascension of our Lord.

Pentecost/Platinum Jubilee, Saturday 4th &
Sunday 5th June
*

On Saturday 4th June 3.00pm to 6.00pm, there will be a garden party at the Rectory to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Come for drinks and cakes!

On Pentecost Day (Sunday 5th June) at St Wilfrid’s Church the Sunday Eucharist will be at the slightly earlier time of 9.15am, to allow preparations for the Service of Thanksgiving for the Platinum Jubilee at 11.00am. That morning, as usual, our Sunday Eucharist at the Church of the Presentation will be at 11.00am.
