Here is the twenty-seventh of the Church Wardens’ messages to the Parish:
As you will know, the Funeral of Prince Philip (RIP) took place last Saturday and, in St Wilfrid’s Church, we honoured the event by ringing three cycles of 99 pulls on the big Kleinwort bell. Each ring represented a year in Philip’s eventful and influential life. He will be missed by family and many others who were touched by his dutiful devotion to this country and the Commonwealth. Thanks Jill and Arthur for organising this small tribute.
Each Wednesday, after the Mid-week Eucharist, a number of us join together for a ZOOM chit- chat. This week, in addition to taking delivery of two rather challenging puzzles (“Only Connect” BBC style) created by David and Laura, we started to discuss the progress of our Covid vaccinations. You will be pleased to hear that your Wardens have both received their second doses! However, following an observation by some of our members, a possible international charity donation to help those less fortunate than ourselves was suggested involving donating the cost of our “jabs” to UNICEF. Details can be accessed here for those who might want to do this:
Information on how to join the ZOOM services and informal “get-togethers” are below, as are the times of services. Do tune-in (ZOOM-in?) if you are able. We do not bite – well, we cannot over the internet anyway.
I think we are all enjoying the present sunny weather. That is everyone except the St Wilfrid’s Church Organ, which seems to be suffering from a bad case of hay fever. Hence the odd squeaks that were heard last Sunday emanating from its dry pipes. Do not fear though, Nic Robinson, our Music Director, is ensuring that suitable treatment is being sought for the ailing patient.
Friday 23 April is St George’s Day and our contribution to the St Wilfrid’s School assembly programme, following the recent theme of patron saints, has been uploaded to our Facebook pages. Our links with the school are really valued and our thanks go to our church members who give up many unpaid hours of their time to act as governors to support the school.
As always, we hope to see you again for this Sunday’s 9.00am Eucharist in St Wilfrid’s (also streamed on our Facebook videos” page – link below) or at our 10.30am Eucharist in the Presentation Church. Father Stephen will be presiding at both. Additionally, the mid-week Wednesday Eucharist will continue, as present, to be ZOOMed using our normal link (see below) at 9.30am followed by our on-line coffee get-togethers. Most of our services are also available recorded online on our Facebook videos page. Here are the Zoom and Facebook links that you’ll need:
