UPDATE: Church services from Christmas Eve Until Further Notice

Our Church Wardens, Arthur and Derek, have today, Christmas Eve, issued the following statement about the parish’s provision of services – in our two churches and online – from today onwards. This updates their last weekly message for the week beginning Sunday 20 December:

As you will know, there have been a number of serious developments in regard to the present pandemic. Increases in victim numbers and a new virus variant have meant that we have we been placed in a far more restrictive tier.

After discussions with Clergy and comments from some parishioners, we have made the decision, to take effect from Boxing Day, 26 December until further notice, to  close again our churches for face to face services and instead rely upon safely streaming them instead. The reasoning is based on changes in governmental instructions and the ever-increasing danger for the many who attend our services fitting the most vulnerable age profile for infection.

Of course, we totally regret having to take this action but will do all in our power to ensure our church offers worship on-line as an alternative. Therefore, from this Sunday (27th December), the main Eucharist will continue to be streamed on Facebook from 10.00am. Again, we must be grateful to the Clergy Team for offering to present services from their homes.

Additionally, there will be a regular streamed mid-week Facebook Eucharist at 9.30am on Wednesdays (initially led by Father John) added  to our service schedule. Further developments to take account of the need to stream worship may include the future use of Zoom; that is being trialled this afternoon, Christmas Eve, at 4.00pm with a short Christmas story being broadcast for children.  The link for this is, as published in our last weekly message:

To join the ZOOM Meeting you should be able to click on the link to open program or you can copy it into your browser:

or use Meeting ID: 308 355 9074          with Passcode: Wilfrid

We will continue to send out our weekly Church Wardens’ messages. Can we ask that you pass this information on to as many people as possible? We shall also be announcing it in church tomorrow during the Christmas Day Eucharist, which, as previously announced, will be at the same time of 10.00am at both St Wilfrid’s Church and the Church of the Presentation.

As always, thank you for your support

Arthur and Derek
