Church Wardens’ Message No. 22 for Sunday 21 March 2021

Here is the twenty-second of the Church Wardens’ messages to the Parish:

What good news it is that we shall be opening our two churches up for services on Easter Day! St Wilfrid’s Easter Day Eucharist will be at 9.00am and the Presentation Church will be celebrating their Eucharist 10.30am. We are all looking forward to celebrating Easter Day together. Sadly, the normal Covid precautions will operate including name registers and social distancing. Our churches will be decorated with flowers as always, and Gloria has asked for donations towards the flowers and lilies (which can be made by cheque payable to St Wilfrid’s PCC and posted into the Church Office by the Rectory and marked “Flowers”). We know our flower arrangers are looking forward to displaying their excellent skills again!

Our musicians too will be pleased to know that the St Wilfrid’s piano is being tuned this Saturday! Like the organ, good instruments need to be played and we are looking forward to hearing Nic and Andrew playing again accompanied by members of our choir.

Presently, the Wardens and the Clergy Team are finalizing our Holy Week services that will be relayed via ZOOM and more details will follow next week. One new, exciting event is that we will be linking with other local churches in following The Stations of the Cross at 10.30am on Wednesday after our own 9.30am Eucharist. This is in response to a kind invitation from Revd Will and our Methodist friends and to show that Christians in Haywards Heath are ‘one body’ despite our different traditions. We will keep the link open after the event for our usual get together that will be open to everyone.

A reminder too that you are welcome to join St. Richard’s ZOOM Lenten Stations of the Cross (Fridays at 6.00pm)

Of course, we are still using social media ourselves and here is the usual ZOOM link that you can click on to join our church services. We have almost managed to get the technology working properly for us!

We also mirror (live) the Sunday Eucharist on our Facebook videos page where previous services are also available and other events like our recent videoed school assembly are stored. It’s here:

FINALLY, we would like to let you and people know that as soon as we receive Diocesan permission we will be carrying out urgent and necessary repairs to our wonderful tower at St Wilfrid’s Church. The costs of this project are very high, which unfortunately will necessitate an Appeal for Financial Support. Please look out very shortly for further information about this vital project and how you can contribute towards it.

The Wardens can always be contacted via email
over any matter including baptisms, wedding and funerals and any activities or events which need to be arranged. Although many activities are still restricted, we can still record provisional bookings in our Church Diary and we hope that the opening of our churches on Easter Day is a sign that regulations and restrictions will change in the weeks and months ahead. We will keep you up-to-date with all our preparations for Holy Week – and remember that we are celebrating Easter Day IN our churches and hope that from then onwards our services will continue to be held in our two churches with coverage continuing on social media where possible. In the meantime, do try and ZOOM in, if you can! Our thanks go to Melvyn for ensuring that you receive this message and that so many others are contacted personally to hear our weekly news.

God Bless and Keep Safe – Arthur and Derek
